Hi, I'm Cate: coffee, code and a small studio

A short introduction to CATE.CODES: who I am, what I build, how I work, and what you will find on this blog.

·2 min di lettura

Hello, I'm Cate. I run CATE.CODES, a small independent studio for web development, digital identity and custom software. I work remotely from Italy, and this is the first proper post on the blog.

What I do

I turn ideas into things that work online. My motto is You dream it, I make it, and it describes the job well. Most projects fall into three groups:

  • Websites. Landing pages, company sites and marketing sites, built with a modern stack, with attention to performance and to the small details of interaction.
  • Digital identity. Logo, palette, typography, tone of voice and guidelines, so a brand speaks with one voice on screen and on paper.
  • Custom software. Internal tools, dashboards, web apps, API and AI integrations, automations, and MVPs for founders and small teams.

I have more than seven years of experience. Day to day, I also work with data, and that is the angle I take when I write about AI.

How I work

I like a simple process, and I describe it with coffee because it fits:

  1. Listen. We start from the problem, not the solution: goals, audience and business context.
  2. Blend. Strategy, architecture and visual direction are decided before I write any code.
  3. Extract. Design and development run in parallel, in short iterations, with deliveries you can check.
  4. Serve. Launch, monitoring and evolution. I stay with the project after go-live.

I take on only a few projects a year, because I want to follow each one from the first brief to the first review in production. You work with me directly, not with an account manager.

What you will find on this blog

I write in English, in the first person, with short sentences. Expect two kinds of posts:

  • Notes from the work. Performance, accessibility, design systems, automations, and what went wrong and how I fixed it.
  • A weekly look at AI. I read the original announcements from the labs and cloud providers, and I keep only what matters if you build or buy software. Every fact will have a link to its source.

I will not write about the stock market or hype without numbers.

Say hello

If you have an idea, even a rough one, write to me at hello@cate.codes and tell me about it in a few lines. I answer within 24 hours, with a virtual coffee and an exploratory call, no commitment.

You can also find me on LinkedIn and Instagram as @cate.codes. And if you just want to look around, the studio page is a good start.

Thanks for reading.
